FAQs about police overtime pay
? Do I need to know my hourly rate? +
No. Use the Salary → Hourly helper on the calculator. Enter your annual salary and weekly hours and we’ll estimate your hourly rate using: annual ÷ (52 × weekly hours).
? Why is my take-home lower than expected? +
Overtime is additional earnings, so it can be taxed at your marginal rate depending on your total income. National Insurance (and pension, if selected) can also reduce the net figure. This tool provides a guide, not payroll advice.
? Are police overtime rates always 1.33 / 1.5 / 2.0? +
They are common presets, but policies can vary by force and circumstances. If your force uses a different enhancement, use the Custom multiplier option.
? Does this include pension and student loan deductions? +
Pension is optional here. Student loan isn’t included yet. The goal is to provide a fast, reliable estimate without collecting sensitive payroll details.
? Can I calculate overtime after tax for Scotland / NI? +
Yes. Choose your region in the calculator. Scotland uses different income tax bands; NI uses different National Insurance rules compared with Great Britain.
