How To Report Something

Email andrew@policepay.co.uk or use the Contact page and tell us which page, which figure and ideally the source you're checking it against (a payslip, a force circular, a regulation, an official determination). The more specific the report, the faster we can verify it.

What Happens Next

1. We check the claim against the primary source listed in our Source Policy, not against another website's version of the same figure.
2. If the figure is wrong, we correct it and update the page's "last updated" date.
3. On a news article, we check the corrected fact against the primary source, then add a dated correction note to the article saying what it said and what it says now, update its "Updated" time and list it in the corrections log below.
4. If the figure was correct but the regulation has since changed, we update it and note the effective date of the change where relevant.
5. If the report turns out to be based on a misunderstanding rather than an actual error, we'll explain why. You're owed a real answer either way, not silence.

What This Site Won't Do

We won't quietly edit a page and pretend the error never happened. A meaningful correction to a pay, pension or tax figure updates the visible "last updated" date on that page, so returning readers can see it changed. Corrections to news items are also listed in the log below and, with their date, under the item itself. How the news desk checks its facts is set out in About Police Pay News.

Response Time

This is a small independent site, not a newsroom with a dedicated corrections desk. We aim to acknowledge reports promptly, but genuine verification against a regulation or determination sometimes takes a few days to do properly. We'd rather get it right than fast.
