City of London Police constable pay scale
Effective 1 September 2026 (calculated: the official 2025/26 scale plus the 3.5% award, rounded to the nearest pound). This is the 7-point scale for constables appointed on or after 1 April 2013 — everyone joining now starts at point 1 and moves up as they complete each year, subject to satisfactory performance, until point 7. City of London Police starting salary and London pay
A new City of London Police constable on pay point 1 earns the national £32,255, plus London Weighting of £3,260 and a London Allowance of up to £6,819: up to £42,334 a year from 1 September 2026. Since 1 April 2025 a chief officer can start all new constables on pay point 2 instead (£33,609 basic); the PRRB's 2026 report notes the Met and City of London Police changed their starting-pay arrangements in April 2025, so check the current advert for the point recruits start on.
- London Weighting £3,260 — a fixed addition to pay for every Met and City officer (Annex F, Part 10; £3,150 from 1 September 2025 plus 3.5%). It counts as pay, so it is pensionable.
- London Allowance up to £6,819 — set by the Commissioner up to the national maximum (Annex U, paragraph 3; £6,588 from 1 September 2025 plus 3.5%). It is an allowance, not pay, so it is not pensionable.
