Cyber incident, September 2026: what the force has said

Checked 1 October 2026

This is a summary of Dyfed-Powys Police's own statement of 25 September 2026, which was still the latest item on the force's news page when we checked on 1 October 2026. The investigation is ongoing, so the facts may change: the force's statement is the authority, not this page.

  • The force was subject to a cyber incident identified on Monday 14 September 2026, which disrupted some non-emergency systems.
  • An investigation has been running since then with support from cyber-security specialists, and systems have been under precautionary measures while services are restored safely.
  • The force says it remains fully operational: 999 and 101 were not affected, and online and email contact, which were unavailable for a period, have been restored.
  • The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has been notified.
  • At the time of the statement the investigation had found no evidence that members of the public's personal data had been accessed or compromised.
  • The force is continuing to investigate whether any information relating to its staff may have been accessed or compromised, and says it will provide appropriate advice to colleagues if required.
  • The investigation is being managed by Tarian through its regional cyber-crime unit.

Not known from official sources (as at 1 October 2026): how the incident happened, whether any staff information was in fact accessed, and if so what. The force has not said, and we do not speculate. On 1 October 2026 we found no separate statement about the incident on the news pages of Tarian (rocu.police.uk), the Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner or the Dyfed-Powys Police Federation branch. Press reports that go beyond the force's statement are not repeated here.

If you work for Dyfed-Powys: rely on the force's own internal updates. The National Cyber Security Centre warns that criminals use high-profile breaches to send convincing scam messages, so treat any unexpected message about the incident, a password reset or "compensation" with care and check it through an official channel. What a force must tell staff after a breach, the practical steps and where to get support are set out in police data breach: what officers and staff should do.

Dyfed-Powys police staff pay

Civilian roles, not officers

Everything above is the officer constable scale. Police staff — including PCSOs, control room, custody and back-office roles — aren't on that scale at all. Dyfed-Powys sets its own local pay and grading structure for staff, uplifted each year by the national Police Staff Council award, so there's no single published table the way there is for officers. Staff (and PCSOs) are also on the Local Government Pension Scheme, not the Police Pension Scheme shown on this page.

What's a pension on £32,255–£52,015 actually worth?

The police pension is often worth more than the salary itself over a full career — and it's the part no job advert quantifies. Run Dyfed-Powys's own pay figures through the calculator to see the real number.
