What is inside
The bank holds 408 questions across 309 topics today, every one with the answer, an explanation and the source it was written from. The counts below are read from the bank itself when this page is built.
Part 1
133
General principles, police powers and procedures
Part 2
140
Serious crime and other offences
Part 3
76
Property offences
Part 4
59
Sexual offences
- Full timed mocks: 80 questions in 120 minutes, no feedback until the end, a question map and flags. The bank holds enough for 5 full mocks without repeats; later mocks favour questions you missed or have not seen.
- Practice by part and topic with the explanation straight after each answer.
- Weak spots: sets drawn from your lowest-scoring topics and part.
- Spaced review: missed questions come back until you get them right, then again after 1, 3, 7 and 21 days.
- Progress by part and topic and a daily target counted back from your sitting.
- AI Pro only: an AI tutor on each answered question and extra AI-written practice by part.
How the mocks are weighted and scored
The College publishes a subject area breakdown after each sitting. We use the latest one, for September 2026, scaled from its 70 marked questions to the 80 you sit (College of Policing subject area breakdown, PDF).
| Part | September 2026 (of 70 marked) | Our mock (of 80) |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1: Powers and procedures | 30 | 34 |
| Part 2: Serious crime | 19 | 22 |
| Part 3: Property offences | 11 | 13 |
| Part 4: Sexual offences | 10 | 11 |
Scoring. The real paper is marked on 70 of its 80 questions: the College removes the 10 that performed least well after the sitting. The pass mark is 39 of 70 (55.7%), and 60 or more (85.7%) is graded exceptional. Each mock shows your raw score out of 80 and an estimate out of 70. Because nobody knows in advance which questions will be removed, ours can only estimate (NIE candidate handbook 2026, PDF).

What this is, and is not. Both tiers are PolicePay's own products. The questions are original, not real or recalled exam questions, and the toolkit is not from, or endorsed by, the College of Policing or Oxford University Press. It cannot promise you a pass. The Manual is the syllabus and you still need to read it. Blackstone's publishes its own Q&A and mock exam books, and other providers sell question banks and courses: we set them side by side, with dated prices and what each does well, in NIE revision resources compared.
The toolkit
Questions about the toolkit
What do I get with the toolkit?
408 original practice questions on parts 1 to 4 of the Investigators' Manual (Part 1: 133, Part 2: 140, Part 3: 76, Part 4: 59), each with an explanation and its legal source. You can sit full timed mocks of 80 questions in 120 minutes, practise one part or one topic at a time, drill your weakest topics, and review missed questions on a spaced schedule. The tool tracks your accuracy by part and topic and works out a daily target to the next sitting. 6 months access for £49.99, one payment.
What does AI Pro add?
AI Pro (£79.99 in total, 6 months, includes the toolkit) adds an AI tutor on every question you have answered (explain it another way, why your answer was wrong, a way to remember it, or ask your own question) and extra AI-written practice questions by part, optionally aimed at the questions you keep missing. If you already hold the toolkit, the upgrade costs £30.00, the difference between the two prices. AI-written questions can contain mistakes, so check anything that surprises you in the Manual.
How are the mocks weighted?
The College publishes a subject area breakdown after each sitting. For September 2026 it shows the 70 marked questions split 30 / 19 / 11 / 10 across parts 1 to 4. Our 80-question mocks use the same proportions scaled to 80: 34 / 22 / 13 / 11. One sitting's split does not guarantee the next one, so treat it as a sensible guide rather than a forecast.
Why does a mock give a score out of 70 as well as out of 80?
The real paper has 80 questions but is marked on 70: after the sitting the College removes the 10 questions that performed least well. The pass mark is 39 out of 70 (55.7%) and the exceptional grade starts at 60 (85.7%). Nobody can know in advance which questions will be removed, so we show your raw score out of 80 and an estimate out of 70 (your raw rate applied to 70). It can only be an estimate.
Are these real NIE questions?
No, and nobody can honestly sell real ones. The College of Policing does not publish its questions, and its rules forbid candidates from sharing questions or even the topic areas of a sitting. Every question here is original PolicePay material written from the legislation, the PACE Codes and case law. None is a recalled exam question or paraphrased from Blackstone's.
How were the questions checked?
Each question is written from the primary source shown with it (legislation.gov.uk, the PACE Codes of Practice, case law, CPS and College guidance) and then checked against that source by a separate review, as at 11 October 2026. The exam tests the law as it appears in the Manual for your sitting, so if an explanation here ever differs from the Manual, go with the Manual and tell us: every question has a Tell us link that comes straight to us.
Do I still need Blackstone's Investigators' Manual?
Yes. The syllabus is Blackstone's Police Investigators' Manual 2026 (Oxford University Press), parts 1 to 4; parts 5 and 6 are not examined. The toolkit is for practising and finding gaps, not a replacement for reading the Manual. The 2027 Manual and Workbook and the 2027 Q&A are listed by booksellers for November 2026 (pre-publication); check which edition applies to your sitting in the College's candidate handbook.
Can I use AI Pro, or any AI tool, during the exam?
No. AI Pro is a revision aid for before the exam. The NIE is taken online and unsupervised, but the College's rules still apply: read the candidate handbook for what is allowed on the day. Never put questions or topic areas from a real sitting into any AI tool, including ours.
How does the free sample work?
8 questions (two from each part) are free here with full explanations, so you can judge the format and depth before paying. There is also a free NIE mini mock (one attempt, no sign-in). Both come from the same small free set of 24 questions; the other 384 are in the toolkit. Free NIE mini mock.
Will this get me through the exam?
Nothing can promise that. In September 2026, 63.3% of the 1,050 candidates passed (College of Policing results overview). A practice score on our questions shows where you are strong and weak; it does not predict your real result. We do not publish pass rates for our own users because we do not have them.
How long does access last, and can I get a refund?
6 months from purchase, which covers a full revision cycle to the next sitting. One payment, nothing renews, and there is a 14-day refund with no reason needed (see our refund policy). Refund policy.
Where is my progress saved?
In this browser on this device. Your access is tied to your account, so you can sign in elsewhere, but progress statistics do not follow you to another browser yet.
