NIE Revision Resources
Compared
Every serious police NIE candidate needs one book, and then has to decide what else is worth paying for. This page puts the main National Investigators' Exam revision resources side by side: the Blackstone's Manual, Workbook, Q&A, Mock and online service, the main course and question bank providers, apps, free options, and our own toolkit, clearly marked as ours. Every price was checked on 11 October 2026 on the seller's own page, with VAT noted where the seller states it.
Independent information, not advice · Sources checked 11 October 2026 · England and Wales unless stated
Buy Blackstone's Police Investigators' Manual for your sitting year (the 2026 edition for every 2026 sitting, including Tuesday, 17 November 2026): the College says it is the only endorsed resource and the syllabus. The 2026 Manual and Workbook pack is £90.00 at OUP and £85.50 to £85.99 at booksellers (checked 11 October 2026). Then add one source of timed 80-question practice, from Blackstone's own Q&A or Mock, a commercial bank or course, or the College's free Knowledge Hub questions. No commercial product is endorsed by the College, including ours.
Every option at a glance
Prices below were read on each seller's own page on 11 October 2026 unless a bookseller is named. Printed books are zero-rated for VAT in the UK. For online products we say whether the seller states VAT is included or added; where it says nothing, we say so.

The College's 2026 NIE handbook says the Blackstone's Police Investigators' Manual is the only official resource it endorses, and that questions are drawn solely from it. It says the Blackstone's Q&A and Mock were developed outside the College and cannot be presumed to be representative of the style or difficulty of NIE questions. Every other product on this page, ours included, is in the same position.
How we compared them, and why there is no ranking
We compared what each product contains (question counts, mocks, teaching), how long access lasts, the price on the day, and what it genuinely does well. We did not rank them, because the right choice depends on what you are short of: knowledge, practice, or structure. A candidate who finds the Manual hard to absorb needs teaching; a candidate who has read it twice needs timed questions.
- No affiliate links. We earn nothing from any product on this page except our own toolkit, which we label wherever it appears.
- Claims are the seller's. Question counts are what each seller states. We have not counted them.
- No quality scores. We have not sat every product's mocks, so we do not grade their accuracy. Use free samples to judge.
- Prices move. Check on the day you buy.
What each resource gives you
The same facts as the first table, arranged by what you might be short of. "Teaching" means something that explains the law rather than only testing it.

What the College says about NIE questions, and why it matters for choosing a bank
The handbook explains how NIE questions are made. They are written by trained question writers who have attended the College's multiple-choice question writing course, linked to the syllabus, and checked for legal accuracy by the College's legal services team and independent legal experts. After each sitting the ten questions that performed least well are removed, and candidates are scored on 70. The exam is not aimed at testing pure factual recall, and candidates will not be examined on information contained solely in the Manual's tables; but where the Manual refers to a paragraph of a PACE Code, candidates are expected to know it.
| Type | What it looks like | How it relates to the NIE |
|---|---|---|
| Recall | Asks you to repeat a fact, for example a maximum sentence or a time limit | The handbook says the exam does not test information found only in the Manual's tables |
| Application | Gives facts and asks which offence, power or outcome applies | This is the NIE style. Prefer banks where most questions look like this |
When you try a free sample from any provider, including ours, count how many questions are scenarios that make you apply the law, and how many simply ask for a number or a list. A bank weighted towards recall may feel productive but trains the wrong skill. Equally, no commercial bank can claim to match the College's style: the handbook says even Blackstone's own Q&A and Mock cannot be presumed representative.
Blackstone's Police Investigators' Manual: the one essential
The College's handbook says the syllabus is cross-referenced to, and only contained within, the 2026 edition of the Manual, and that candidates are examined on the law and procedure only as it appears there. It recommends a minimum of 14 weeks of independent study using the Manual. Parts 1 to 4 are examined; parts 5 and 6 are not.
- 2026 Manual and Workbook: sold as a pack by OUP at £90.00, ISBN 9780198978190, published 12 November 2025, 1,120 pages. Amazon UK £85.99 and Dandy Booksellers £85.50 (checked 11 October 2026).
- 2027 Manual and Workbook: OUP lists it at £90.00 for pre-order, ISBN 9780197918944, with an estimated publication date of 8 November 2026. It is not the syllabus for any 2026 sitting.
- Online version: OUP sells the Investigators' Manual and Workbook online for £83.00 for five months, plus tax. Useful for searching; some people revise better from paper.
Which edition you need, and what to do about second-hand copies and law changes, is covered in detail on which Blackstone's Investigators' Manual edition.
Blackstone's Workbook, Q&A and Mock Exam
| Product | What it is | What it does well | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workbook (in the Manual pack) | Over 100 Type A multiple-choice questions in 2026 (over 150 in 2027), plus recall questions, chapter by chapter | Checks you have understood each chapter as you read it. Comes with the Manual, so no extra cost | Not College-endorsed. Not a timed or mixed format |
| Q&A | Over 1,000 questions in print, each answer explaining why the other options are wrong, cross-referenced to Manual paragraphs | Volume of reasoned practice for £29.99; useful to find gaps chapter by chapter | The College says it may not be representative of NIE style or difficulty |
| Mock Exam | One 80-question paper, two-hour limit, sealed answer booklet and marking matrix | A realistic dress rehearsal of length and timing, on paper | One paper only, so once used it is used. Same College caveat |
The 2027 Q&A is listed at £31.99 with an estimated date of 14 November 2026. OUP listed no 2027 Mock Exam when checked. For a November 2026 sitting, the 2026 Q&A and Mock are the matching editions.
Blackstone's Police online
OUP's online service has an NIE area offering revision by topic, tests, and quarter, half and full mocks, and says it holds over 1,000 multiple-choice questions. Personal subscriptions listed on OUP's site (checked 11 October 2026) were all for five months, with tax added at checkout:
- Investigators' Q&A Online: £70.00
- Investigators' Manual and Workbook Online: £83.00
- Manual, Workbook and Q&As Combined Online: £115.00
What it does well: the questions come from the same publisher as the syllabus and are cross-referenced to it, and the mock lengths let you build stamina gradually. Five months covers the College's recommended 14 weeks with room to spare. Institutions can arrange trials, so ask whether your force already subscribes before paying yourself.
Print or online Manual?
The content is the same edition either way. The choice is about how you study. Many candidates who work shifts use both: paper for the deep reading on rest days, and a phone for questions in short gaps.
| Factor | Online (OUP) | |
|---|---|---|
| Searching | Index and contents pages only | Full-text search across the Manual |
| Annotating | Pen, highlighter and tabs, which many people remember better | Depends on the platform |
| Where you can use it | Anywhere, no signal needed | Phone, tablet or computer with a login |
| How long you keep it | Permanently | For the subscription period (five months for OUP personal subscriptions) |
| Cost | £85.50 to £90.00 for the 2026 pack, VAT-free | £83.00 plus tax for the Manual and Workbook online; £115.00 plus tax with Q&A |
| Resale | A current-year copy can be passed on to a colleague sitting the same year | Not transferable |
If your force or university has an institutional subscription, the online Manual may cost you nothing. Ask your force library or NIE liaison contact before buying a personal subscription.
Courses and question banks
| Provider | What it offers | What it does well | Price and VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Police Revision | Video e-learning, mocks, two-day crammer (one live day and one recorded question day). 50% off full packages for Police Oracle subscribers | Teaching, not just testing: suits people who find the Manual hard going. Crammer recorded, so you can catch up. Mocks sold separately | £129 for six months; mocks £49; crammer £49. VAT not stated |
| Police Pass | Large question bank, blended video e-learning, printed revision books, four-day virtual crammer | Very large bank and the ability to build your own timed tests by module or across the whole syllabus. Free kick-start course and sample chapter | £105.00 bank (taxes included); £235.00 blended; £69.99 books; £150 crammer. Its older product page gives a lower question figure than the shop |
| Police Law Prep | Questions and flashcards with spaced repetition, one full mock, Sergeant and Inspector content included at the same price | Low monthly cost, a confidence check (sure, unsure, guess) on each answer, four NIE topics free without sign-up, and it tells you plainly you still need the Manual | £15 a month including VAT; seven-day free trial with no card |
We found no verifiable NIE-specific products from How2Become, Police Learn or Checkmate when we checked, though some of them sell Sergeant and Inspector material. Some Federation branches and forces arrange courses for their own candidates; ask your NIE liaison contact.
Crammer courses before the November 2026 sitting
| Course | Price | Dates | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Police Revision two-day crammer | £49 | Saturday 7 November 2026 for the live day, plus a recorded question day | Recorded, so you can catch up |
| Police Pass four-day virtual crammer | £150 per sitting | 9 to 12 November 2026, with 2027 dates also listed | Not recorded according to the listing |
What a crammer does well: it compresses the high-weight material into a structured day or days, often with questions worked through live, and it gets you away from the Manual's density for a while. What it cannot do: substitute for weeks of reading. Both courses above fall in the final fortnight before Tuesday, 17 November 2026, which is the right time to consolidate, not to start. Check whether your shift pattern lets you attend live, and whether your force will grant study time or pay.
Apps
- Police Inspire (Inspired Training Solutions): free to download, with a National Investigators' Exam in-app purchase of £19.99. Access period not stated in the listing. Shown as 2.9 out of 5 from 12 ratings (checked 11 October 2026).
- "National Investigators' Exam" (an individual developer): £12.99, works offline, last updated 9 March 2025. Shown as 1.0 from 1 rating. Question count not stated.
Ratings with so few reviews say little either way. The more useful check is the update date: an app last updated before the 2026 Manual was published may not reflect it. We did not check Google Play.
Free options
- College of Policing Knowledge Hub. The handbook invites all candidates to join the Candidate Online Examination Guidance group, which contains practice questions, exam tips, study timetables and a revision technique guide. Login needed. These are the only practice questions written by the people who set the exam, so start here.
- The Workbook in the Manual pack. Over 100 questions you have already paid for.
- Providers' free samples. Police Law Prep offers four NIE topics without sign-up and a seven-day trial; Police Pass has a free kick-start course and sample chapter.
- OpenExamPrep. Free sample NIE questions without registration, with paid AI credits optional. It says it is not affiliated with the College.
- Police Oracle and the Police Digital Service. In January 2026 Police Oracle offered subscribers on the Police Digital Service route free coupon codes for Police Revision's NIE e-learning, from a limited pool, expiring 30 January 2026. We found no scheme open for November 2026. Ask whether your force has one.
- Our free tools. A free NIE mini mock with a result report, a free revision timetable and free practice questions. These are ours.
Our toolkit, and what it does not do
We make the PolicePay NIE exam prep toolkit, so weigh what follows accordingly. It costs £49.99 for 6 months, one payment, no subscription; AI Pro is £79.99 for the same period, or £30.00 to upgrade if you already hold the toolkit.
- What it has: 408 original practice questions across parts 1 to 4 (Part 1: 133, Part 2: 140, Part 3: 76, Part 4: 59), each with an explanation and a legal source; timed 80-question mocks in the College's published September 2026 proportions; practice by part and topic; spaced review of missed questions; progress by part.
- AI Pro adds an AI tutor on answered questions and extra AI-written practice questions. AI-written questions can contain mistakes. AI may not be used in the real exam.
- What it does not do: it does not teach the law from scratch, has no video or live teaching, no crammer and no human tutor. Its bank is smaller than the largest commercial banks. It is not endorsed by the College or OUP, and its questions are not real or recalled exam questions. It does not replace the Manual.
- What we cannot tell you: how our users do in the real exam. We have no such data and do not claim any.
Cost over a 14-week revision period
The College recommends at least 14 weeks of study. These combinations assume you buy the 2026 Manual and Workbook (£85.50 to £90.00) and add one practice source. Totals are rounded and use prices checked 11 October 2026.
| Combination | Approximate total | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Manual and Workbook only | £85.50 to £90.00 | The minimum. The Workbook gives some practice |
| Manual plus Q&A plus Mock (print) | about £145 to £150 | All OUP print. Over 1,000 questions plus one full paper |
| Manual plus Blackstone's Q&A Online | about £170 to £175 (£70 plus 20% VAT = £84, plus the book) | Online mocks and tests from the same publisher. Five months covers 14 weeks |
| Manual plus Police Law Prep for four months | about £145 to £150 | Monthly, so cancel after the exam |
| Manual plus Police Pass bank | about £190 to £195 | Large bank, six months |
| Manual plus Police Revision complete | about £215 to £220 | Teaching plus questions and crammer |
| Manual plus our toolkit | about £135 to £140 | Original questions and timed mocks; £8.33 a month over 6 months |
OUP's online subscriptions show tax added at checkout; the 20% figure is our assumption for illustration. Police Pass and Police Law Prep state VAT is included. Police Revision did not state VAT treatment.
Combining resources across 14 weeks
The College recommends at least 14 weeks of study. A simple way to use resources without overlap is to match each one to a phase, rather than running everything at once.
| Phase | What you are doing | Resource |
|---|---|---|
| Weeks 1 to 8 | Read Parts 1 to 4 of the Manual in order of weight, doing the Workbook questions at the end of each chapter | Manual and Workbook only. The College's Knowledge Hub questions as a check |
| Weeks 5 to 12 | Topic questions on chapters already read; spaced review of everything you get wrong | A question bank, the print Q&A, or both |
| Weeks 10 to 14 | At least two full 80-question, two-hour papers under exam conditions, then targeted re-reading | The Mock Exam, an online mock, or a bank's full mock |
The phases overlap on purpose: you start questions on Part 1 while still reading Part 4. Our NIE revision plan sets this out week by week for 4, 8 and 12 weeks, weighted to the four parts.
The November edition trap
OUP lists the 2027 Manual and Workbook for about 8 November 2026 and the 2027 Q&A for about 14 November 2026 (estimated dates). The November NIE is on Tuesday, 17 November 2026. Someone buying in early November could easily end up with the 2027 books for a sitting that examines the 2026 edition.
For the Tuesday, 17 November 2026 sitting, buy or borrow the 2026 Manual. The 2027 edition will be the right book for 2027 sittings only once the College's 2027 handbook says so, which it had not published when we checked. The same applies to the Q&A, Mock and online subscriptions: choose the edition that matches your sitting.
| Date | Product | Which sittings |
|---|---|---|
| 12 November 2025 | 2026 Manual and Workbook published (OUP) | Syllabus for all 2026 sittings |
| 14 November 2025 | 2026 Q&A published (OUP) | Matches the 2026 Manual |
| 18 November 2025 | 2026 Mock Exam published (OUP) | Matches the 2026 Manual |
| About 8 November 2026 (estimated) | 2027 Manual and Workbook (OUP pre-order) | Expected to be the syllabus for 2027 sittings once the 2027 handbook says so |
| About 14 November 2026 (estimated) | 2027 Q&A (OUP pre-order) | For 2027 sittings |
| Tuesday, 17 November 2026 | November 2026 NIE | Examines the 2026 edition |
| Not listed | 2027 Mock Exam | OUP had not listed one when checked |
OUP's listing for the 2027 Manual says it includes a new chapter on the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act 2025 and over 40 new Workbook questions. Whether that material becomes examinable, and in which part, will be set by the College's 2027 handbook, not by the publisher.
Second-hand and shared copies
- Right year only. A used 2026 Manual is as good as a new one for a 2026 sitting. The handbook advises against relying on previous editions, which may contain out-of-date material.
- Check the Workbook. A previous owner may have written answers in it, which spoils it as a self-test. Look before you pay.
- Check the copyright page, not the listing title. At least one bookseller's web address for the 2027 pack still says 2026. The year printed on the book is what counts.
- Resale value falls after November. Once the 2027 edition becomes the syllabus for 2027 sittings, 2026 copies lose most of their value to future candidates. If you sit on Tuesday, 17 November 2026, a colleague sitting the same day is the best person to share or sell to.
- Q&A and Mock books. The Mock is a single paper: if a previous owner sat it, you lose the surprise. A used Q&A is fine if unmarked.
If you are resitting
A resitter's money is best spent on the gap the feedback shows, not on more of everything. Three practical points:
- Edition. If you sat in 2026 and resit in 2027, you will need the 2027 edition once the College confirms it as the 2027 syllabus. If you resit on Tuesday, 17 November 2026, your 2026 books are still correct.
- Subscriptions. A six-month subscription bought for a June or September sitting may still run for November. Check before buying again.
- Feedback by part. Choose a product that lets you practise one part at a time and shows accuracy by part, so you can see whether the weak area is improving. Our guide to failing the NIE covers the resit rules.
How to evaluate any question bank
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which edition are the questions written to? | A bank written to an older Manual tests law that may have changed. Ask which year, and how they update it |
| Are explanations sourced? | Each answer should say why, and point to the statute, PACE Code paragraph or case. 'Because the Manual says so' is weaker |
| Can you sit a full 80-question, two-hour paper? | The NIE is a stamina test as much as a knowledge test. One or two realistic full papers before the day matters |
| Is the mix by part sensible? | The College publishes a subject area breakdown per sitting. In September 2026 it was 30, 19, 11 and 10 scored questions across parts 1 to 4 |
| Does it claim real or recalled questions? | Walk away. The College forbids sharing questions or even topic areas of a sitting; using such material puts your result at risk |
| Does it claim College endorsement? | Only the Manual is endorsed. Anyone implying otherwise is misleading you |
| Can you try before paying? | Most providers offer free samples or a trial. Use them to judge the writing quality |
| What happens after the exam? | Check whether it renews automatically and how to cancel |
Who each resource suits
Suits: Candidates who like working chapter by chapter on paper, and want a large number of reasoned questions for £29.99.
Less suited to: People who need timed mixed papers, or who revise mostly on a phone.
Suits: Anyone who wants one realistic two-hour paper on paper, close to the exam date.
Less suited to: Anyone wanting repeated full mocks: there is one paper.
Suits: Candidates who want the publisher's questions with mocks of different lengths and a searchable Manual, and whose force does not already subscribe.
Less suited to: Those on a tight budget who already own the print Q&A.
Suits: People who find reading the Manual hard and learn better from video teaching, and those who want a crammer they can catch up on.
Less suited to: Candidates who only need more questions: the mocks-only option at £49 is the cheaper route for them.
Suits: Candidates who want a very large bank and to build their own timed tests, or a live four-day crammer.
Less suited to: Those who cannot attend a live crammer, since the listing says it is not recorded.
Suits: Shift workers who want low monthly cost, flashcards and spaced repetition, and to cancel after the exam.
Less suited to: Anyone wanting several different full mocks: one is listed.
Suits: Everyone. It is free and written by the exam's own side.
Less suited to: Nobody, though you need a login and it will not be enough practice on its own.
Suits: Candidates who have started the Manual and want timed 80-question mocks weighted like the College's published split, with progress by part, for a one-off payment.
Less suited to: Anyone who needs teaching from scratch, video, a crammer or the largest possible bank.
Ask your force first
Before paying for anything beyond the Manual, ask your NIE liaison contact, training school or Federation representative:
- Does the force, or a university partner on your programme, have an institutional subscription to Blackstone's online?
- Does the force provide or lend the Manual to PIP2 or direct entry candidates?
- Is there a funded crammer, internal revision group or study day before Tuesday, 17 November 2026?
- Does the force set an earlier internal registration deadline than the College's?
- Can you get Knowledge Hub access sorted now rather than in exam week?
We could not verify any force that publicly commits to providing the Manual free, so we do not name any. Practice varies, and a short email can save you £90. For timing and deadlines on the direct entry routes, see the NIE on direct entry detective routes.
Decision guide by situation
| Your situation | A sensible starting combination |
|---|---|
| You have not opened the Manual yet and the exam is in 14 weeks or more | Manual first. Add the Workbook questions chapter by chapter. Add a bank around week 4 to 6 |
| You find the Manual hard to absorb by reading | A teaching product (video e-learning or a crammer) alongside the Manual |
| You have read the Manual once and need practice | A question bank with timed mocks. Free samples first |
| You are on a tight budget | Manual plus the College's free Knowledge Hub questions plus one low-cost bank or the print Q&A |
| You are a resitter | Use your feedback report to target parts; a bank that tracks accuracy by part helps |
| You are a direct entry trainee with study time built in | Follow the programme's materials first; ask what your force or provider already gives you before buying |
Whichever you choose, the method matters more than the product: read the Manual, test yourself, review mistakes, and sit full timed papers. See how to pass the NIE.
Worked scenarios
A trainee DC has the 2026 Manual and has read Parts 1 and 2 once. The priority is finishing Parts 3 and 4 and then doing realistic timed papers. A bank with full 80-question mocks, or the OUP Mock Exam plus a bank, gives the timing practice. Buying the 2027 Manual when it appears in November would be a mistake: the November 2026 sitting examines the 2026 edition.
Someone on response shifts wants to revise in short gaps. A phone-friendly bank with short topic sets and a spaced review feature suits the gaps. The Manual still needs dedicated reading time, so build those blocks into rest days. Check each app's question count and edition before paying, because the store listings we saw did not state them clearly.
A candidate missed the pass mark by a few questions. More reading of the whole Manual is less efficient than targeting the parts the feedback shows were weakest. A bank that reports accuracy by part and topic lets them check progress. If the gap is exam technique (time running out), full timed papers matter more than more topic questions.
The Manual and Workbook take £85.50 to £90. That leaves £20 to £24.50: enough for one month of Police Law Prep (£15), which with the seven-day trial can cover the final five weeks if you time it well. The College's Knowledge Hub practice questions are free. A colleague's spare 2026 Q&A, if one is available, adds over 1,000 questions at no cost.
Myths about NIE revision resources
- "The Q&A book is the same as the exam." The College says the Q&A and Mock cannot be presumed to be representative of the style or difficulty of NIE questions.
- "You can pass from a question bank without the Manual." Questions are drawn solely from the Manual. Banks test what you have learned; they do not replace the source.
- "More questions always means better." Quality of explanation and the edition matter more than the headline count. A thousand questions to the wrong edition can mislead.
- "Someone sells real NIE questions." Nobody can do so honestly. The College does not publish them and forbids sharing them, or the topic areas of a sitting.
- "The newest edition is always the right one." The right edition is the one named in the handbook for your sitting. For every 2026 sitting that is 2026.
Questions to ask a provider before you pay
- Which Manual edition are your questions written to, and when were they last updated?
- How many questions are there for the NIE specifically, not for all exams combined?
- Can I sit a full 80-question, two-hour mock, and how many different full mocks are there?
- Does each explanation cite the statute, Code paragraph or case?
- Is there a free sample or trial, and does it need a card?
- Does access renew automatically, and how do I cancel?
- Is VAT included in the price shown?
What we could not verify
- The College discount. The College has advertised a 30% discount on Blackstone's Police Manuals through College Learn. We could not confirm whether it covers the Investigators' Manual, or see the code, because it sits behind a login.
- Inside the Knowledge Hub group. We could not see how many practice questions the College's group holds.
- Police Revision's annual bundle. A £99 a year figure appeared in a search result but not on the live site, which showed £129 for six months. We have used the live price.
- Question counts. All counts are the sellers' own claims. Police Pass's older product page gives a lower figure than its shop.
- Force-provided Manuals. We found no force or programme page we could verify saying the Manual is provided free to PIP2, DHEP or Police Now candidates. Some forces may provide it; ask yours.
- Blackwell's and Waterstones prices. Their pages could not be read from our environment.
- Google Play apps. Not checked.
- Quality. We did not test the accuracy of any provider's questions.

The one resource every candidate needs is Blackstone's Police Investigators' Manual for the year you sit, because the College of Policing says the syllabus is only contained in it and questions are drawn solely from it. After that, most candidates add a question bank with timed 80-question mocks. Courses and crammers suit people who need teaching or structure rather than more questions.
Which Blackstone's book do I need for the November 2026 NIE?
The 2026 edition. The College's 2026 handbook says candidates are examined on the law as it appears in the 2026 Blackstone's Police Investigators' Manual. The 2027 Manual and Workbook is listed by OUP as published around 8 November 2026 (estimated, checked 11 October 2026), nine days before the Tuesday, 17 November 2026 sitting, but that does not change the syllabus for 2026 sittings.
How much is the Blackstone's Investigators' Manual?
OUP lists the 2026 Manual and Workbook pack at £90.00 (published 12 November 2025). Amazon UK had it at £85.99 and Dandy Booksellers at £85.50 (checked 11 October 2026). The 2027 pack is listed at £90.00 for pre-order. Printed books are zero-rated for VAT in the UK, so the book price is the full price.
Are the Blackstone's Q&A and Mock Exam endorsed by the College?
No. The 2026 NIE handbook says the Blackstone's Police Investigators' Q&A and Mock Examination Paper were developed outside the College, cannot be presumed to be representative of the style or difficulty of NIE questions, and are not endorsed by or affiliated with the College. The same applies to every commercial question bank, including ours. Only the Manual is endorsed.
Does the College of Policing provide free NIE practice questions?
Yes. The handbook says practice questions, exam tips, study timetables and a revision technique guide are in the Candidate Online Examination Guidance group on the Knowledge Hub. You need a Knowledge Hub login; your force NIE liaison contact can help with access. We could not see inside the group, so we cannot say how many questions it holds.
Is there free NIE e-learning through Police Oracle?
Not that we could find open now. A Police Oracle article dated 15 January 2026 offered Police Oracle subscribers on the Police Digital Service route coupon codes for Police Revision's NIE e-learning, from a limited pool, with codes expiring on 30 January 2026. Ask your force whether a similar scheme runs for your sitting.
How much does Police Pass cost for the NIE?
Police Pass listed its NIE multiple choice question package at £105.00 for a six-month licence, 'taxes included', describing over 2,000 questions, and showed it in stock (checked 11 October 2026). It also sells blended e-learning at £235.00, revision textbooks at £69.99 and a four-day virtual crammer at £150.
What does Police Revision offer for the NIE?
Police Revision listed NIE Complete E-Learning at £129 for six months (video lessons, questions, eight full mocks and its crammer), NIE mocks only at £49 (four 80-question mocks) and a two-day crammer at £49, with a next date of 7 November 2026 (checked 11 October 2026). It says Police Oracle subscribers get 50% off the full packages. VAT treatment was not stated.
What is Police Law Prep?
An online question and flashcard service that now hosts the former nierevision.co.uk. It listed £15 a month including VAT, a seven-day free trial without a card, and for the NIE 774 questions, 518 cards and one full 80-question mock across 43 topics (checked 11 October 2026). It says you still need the Manual.
Are NIE revision apps worth it?
There are few. On the UK App Store (checked 11 October 2026) Police Inspire is free to download with an NIE in-app purchase of £19.99, and a separate 'National Investigators' Exam' app costs £12.99. Neither listing states a question count clearly. Check the access period and the edition the questions are written to before paying.
Can I use a second-hand Manual?
Yes, if it is the right year. A second-hand 2026 Manual is fine for a 2026 sitting. An older edition is not: the handbook advises against relying on previous editions because they may contain out-of-date material. Check the year on the cover and the copyright page before you buy.
Is the PolicePay NIE toolkit endorsed by the College?
No. It is our own product, original questions written from statute and case law, and it is not from or endorsed by the College of Policing or Oxford University Press. It costs £49.99 for 6 months (AI Pro £79.99), one payment. It does not teach the law from scratch, has no video or live teaching, and does not replace the Manual.
Should I go on a crammer course for the NIE?
A crammer suits people who want structure late in their revision or who learn better from teaching than reading. It cannot replace weeks with the Manual. Police Revision's two-day crammer was listed at £49 with a live day on 7 November 2026, and Police Pass's four-day virtual crammer at £150 for 9 to 12 November 2026 (checked 11 October 2026).
Can I use AI tools to revise for the NIE?
For revision, AI tools can explain law or generate practice questions, but they can be wrong, so check anything surprising against the Manual. The College's rules prohibit AI during the exam, and candidates must never put questions or topic areas from a real sitting into any tool. Our AI Pro tier is a revision aid only.
